Emerging storytelling formats for fiction and documentary

Researchers from the Norwegian Film School present innovative, interactive formats for storytelling, from Artificial Intelligence (AI), co-creation, playful narrativity and immersive journalism to Virtual Reality (VR).
14.00 – 14.05 Welcome
Karin Julsrud (Dean, Norwegian Film School) and Fredrik Graver (Vice Dean, Norwegian Film School and Head of the Centre for Excellence in Film and Interactive Media Art (CEFIMA).
14.05 – 14.30 Maureen Thomas: Narrativity and Interactivity
Maureen Thomas, story architect and former professor in narrativity and interactivity at the Norwegian Film School has a background in screenwriting and narrative 3D installation. She will speak about her current research into interactive game as storytelling medium.
14.30 -14.50 Bendik Stang: AI and Game Story
Bendik Stang, Game Designer and Creative Director at Snowcastle Games speaks about the intersection between the art of storytelling in video games and personally created narrative through play assisted by creative AI.
14.50 – 15.10 Elin Festøy: Interactive Documentary
Elin Festøy, artistic researcher and creative producer of the documentary-based game “My Child Lebensborn” talks about immersive journalism and her VR project telling the story of Children Born of War in an interactive form.

15.20 – 15.40 Cecilie Levy: VR Storyspace
Cecilie Levy, a filmmaker with emphasis on screenwriting, educated at the Dutch Film School and Amsterdam based, speaks about her exploration into storytelling for Virtual Reality.
15.40 -16.00 Nadja Lipsyc: Storydiving: techniques for engaging 360 narratives
Nadja Lipsyc, narrative designer and creative director with a background in games, theatre, film and neuroscience, speaks about techniques for engaging and meaningful 360 experiences.

16.10 – 17.00 Round Table Discussion, moderated by Ellen Lyse Einarsen, graduate of the Norwegian Film School, COO of Expology Oslo, with a background in writing for screen and games as well as experience/exhibition design.
